Heavy, psychedelic, and atmospherically intense – Motorowl from Thuringia, Germany, craft sonic landscapes that fuse doom, prog, and psychedelic rock into a sound uniquely their own. Since forming in 2014, the band has delivered music that’s as emotionally deep as it is sonically massive.
Blending the weight of classic heavy rock with 70s progressive influences and modern post-metal textures, Motorowl conjure a dense, cinematic sound. Crushing guitars, analog synths, commanding vocals, and driving rhythms merge into songs that are both heavy and melodic, dark yet captivating.
After three full length albums (two on Century Media), Motorowl recently signed to Karisma Records, and the band comments: “We’re stoked to announce that we’ve teamed up with Bergen-based Karisma Records to release our new music worldwide.”
To celebrate this, a new song called Water Line is released today!
Max Hemman of Motorowl has this to say about Water Line:
Water Line is a song about a story my grandfather and his friends used to tell me.
Near my family’s cabin in the woods, a small settlement was once flooded to make room for the river and create a reservoir. “Don’t dive too deep, or you’ll hit the church,” they used to say. Back then, it sounded to me like an entire village was lying down there beneath the water, as if it were still there, preserved underwater.
That image has stayed with me my whole life. Even now, knowing that it was actually just a long abandoned mill and the farm surrounding it, I often look out at that spot and imagine what it must have looked like back then. I think about the people who lived there and eventually had to leave their homes because the water was coming.
That image became Water Line. The song tells the story of this submerged place and the people who, in my imagination, are still living down there.
Water Line is the first in a series of songs we’ve written about the myths, stories, and legends from the area where we grew up.
Motorowl will start recording their new album this fall, but they’ve also found time to join the mighty Bergen based heavy rock band Audrey Horne on a European tour.
