As announced, Norway’s jazz rockers Sex Magick Wizards will release their new album Suola ja Noaidi on the 4th of September.
With three critically acclaimed albums behind them, their upcoming release Suola ja Noaidi (The Thief and the Shaman) stands as a powerful new statement in Sámi-influenced experimental rock and shows a new chapter for the band.
The second single from the album is the song Transform which is released on the 10th of July.

Transform is the second single from the upcoming album Suola ja Noaidi by the Norwegian and Sámi prog-jazz quartet Sex Magick Wizards. This track is the roaring vocal solo debut of saxophone player and multi instrumentalist Sigrid Aftret. Here she demonstrates how her uncompromising musical approach on the horns transfers effortlessly to her voice – harassing and insulting the listener with proclamations and commandments of change and transformation. She is backed by an off-kilter, major-themed whirlwind boogie – hinting at the band’s affection for Captain Beefhart and Deerhoof. The result is an ever-evolving relentless rodeo where the vocals and band battle it out, each taking turns on surpassing the other in volume and intensity.
Suola ja Noaidi
The album features cover artwork by Henrik Sørlid, incorporating collages based on works by Sámi artist Ingunn Utsi, put together by Lasse Marhaug. All English lyrics by Sex Magick Wizards have been translated into Northern Sámi by Risten Sofie West and are presented in a booklet inside the folder. The album also includes the original surviving poem Suola Ja Noaidi in both a modernized Northern Sámi transcription and English translation by Harald Gaski. About the band
Sex Magick Wizards formed back in 2017 and have spent the last years touring extensively across Europe’s underground and experimental music scenes. They’ve become one of the more influential Norwegian bands in the borderline between experimental rock and jazz acts and have constantly developed their sound over the years.
The band members Viktor Bomstad (guitar, joik, vocals, synth), Sigrid Aftret (saxophones, flutes, vocals, synth), Henrik Sandstad Dalen (bass, vocals, sampling) and Ingvald André Vassbø (drums, vocals) are all active across the Norwegian jazz, rock and experimental scenes, known through work with groups including Kanaan, Full Earth and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra. Together they create uncompromising, forward-moving music drawing from psychedelic rock, Sámi culture and the avant-garde tradition.
