We are happy to announce that Norway’s jazz rockers Sex Magick Wizards has joined Is it Jazz? Records for their 4th album!
Sex Magick Wizards formed back in 2017, and have spent the last years touring extensively across Europe’s underground and experimental music scenes. They’ve become one of the more influential Norwegian bands in the borderline between experimental rock and jazz acts, and have constantly developed their sound over the years.
With three critically acclaimed albums behind them, their upcoming release Suola ja Noaidi (The Thief and the Shaman) stands as a powerful new statement in Sámi-influenced experimental rock and shows a new chapter for the band.
The band members Viktor Bomstad (guitar, joik, vocals), Sigrid Aftret (saxophones, flutes, vocals), Henrik Sandstad Dalen (bass, vocals) and Ingvald André Vassbø (drums, vocals) are all active across the Norwegian jazz, rock and experimental scenes, known through work with groups including Kanaan, Full Earth and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra. Together they create uncompromising, forward-moving music drawing from psychedelic rock, Sámi culture and the avant-garde tradition.
With the signing to Is it Jazz? Records, Ingvald André Vassbø says:
“The four of us are very happy to be a part of Is It Jazz? Records and the larger Karisma-family. We´re long time fans of a lot of the bands on the label-roster and we´re very happy that they were willing to take us onboard. Since its inception the label feels like it´s become an institution of its own. Especially when one thinks about Norwegian progressive rock, metal and now parts of the jazz scene as well, it´s clear that it has had a big impact on the scene. We´re excited and are looking very much forward to working with Martin, Otto and the rest of the Is it Jazz?-family and releasing our music there!”
More information on the upcoming Sex Magick Wizards album will come soon, but for now we’re just delighted to announce that it will be released on Is it Jazz? Records.
