Due to regulatory changes regarding US customs and unclear information regarding its practical application, our logistics partners will be suspending their delivery services to the US following Friday 22 August. More info from the Norwegian Postal service:
On July 30, the Trump administration removed the customs and duty exemption for shipments with a value of less than 800 USD (just over 8,000 Norwegian kroner) with effect from August 29. As a consequence, it will not be possible to send this type of shipment to the USA, or Puerto Rico, which is a US territory, from Saturday, August 23.
The last day to submit shipments to the USA with a value of less than 800 USD will be Friday, August 22. After this date, Posten Bring will not be able to accept this type of shipment. Similar arrangements are also being introduced in other countries.
The changes to the customs and duty exemption that the US authorities have introduced mean that customers must now pay customs duties before shipments can be transported to the USA. The details surrounding this have not yet been clarified by the US customs authorities, and no system solutions have been developed that postal companies can use.
Postal companies in Europe are working together to clarify the process and solutions that the customs authorities in the United States will require, but so far this has not been clarified. At the same time, the implementation date is maintained.
The situation creates uncertainty about transport options, return processes and responsibilities, so that suspension appears to be the only option.
Intensive work is being done to obtain the necessary clarifications so that solutions can be developed and mail delivery can resume.
